Died: July 22, 1861 in Manassas, Virginia

Military Rank (CSA): Brigadier General

  • He attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1845.
  • He fought in the Mexican-American War.
  • He gave “Stonewall” Jackson his nickname at the First Battle of Bull Run (though there is debate over whether it was used as admiration or insult for not advancing his men).
  • He was mortally wounded at the First Battle of Bull Run and died the next day.
